Surel’s Place Artist in Residence, Idaho: She Belongs to the Earth

To what do we belong?

There is intrinsic beauty found in our microbiology. I’m fascinated with microscopic cellular images of my body which parallel the structures and geometries I find in nature. Researching and collecting images, I’ve developed my own photographic atlas of the human body using microscopic images, x-rays, tomography imaging and even nanotechnology pictures. With these correlating images, I’m drawn into this visual language; marks, patterns and rhythms creating bio-inspired designs. Energy moves in waves, waves move in patterns, patterns in rhythm. I sense this attunement. We are connected molecularly, chemically and energetically to the earth. I long for the viewer to witness this seamless correlation between geometries, the rhythms and patterns of nature embodied in our being.

Efflorescence

A dynamic life-force
traveling indiscriminately
across geographical borders.
A frequency
wave
pattern
living rhythm
tracing it’s origins,
mutating, adapting,
blossoming.
